"It was a splendid population - for all the slow, sleepy, sluggish-brained sloths stayed at home - you never find that sort of people among pioneers - you cannot build pioneers out of that sort of material. It was that population that gave to California a name for getting up astounding enterprises and rushing them through with a magnificent dash and daring and a recklessness of cost or consequences, which she bears unto this day - and when she projects a new surprise the grave world smiles as usual and says, "Well, that is California all over."

San Diego Media: 'We Knew About Filner and Said Nothing'

"Corruptus in Extremis"
Liberal Democrat gets a pass from the Elite Media

Doug Curlee, a San Diego reporter, admits in a Monday editorial in a Monday editorial that "San Diego news media reporters, editors, producers and writers pretty much knew who and what Bob Filner is and has been." But except for talking about it over drinks, "we did nothing about it."

Worst of all, Curlee claims that the rumors around Filner were "incessant," but no one bothered to confirm them, choosing instead to accept denials.

Curlee lists a few reasons for "why we had the chance—many chances over the years—to dig into the Filner story and find much of this out," and didn't reports Breitbart News.

Was it because Filner had established himself as a Democratic power here—for a long time, the only Democratic power here?

Was it because he had built his electoral power base generally south of Interstate 8, among the “minority” communities of African-Americans, Latinos, and Filipinos?

Was it because Filner totally controlled the votes and campaign funds of large and ever-growing organized labor groups, the unions?

Was it because economic pressure was brought to bear on TV station ownerships or newspaper ownerships, all of whom depend on advertising dollars as their prime source of revenue?

Naturally, the real reason is not listed there, which is why this kind of thing will happen again and again.

If Filner were a Republican, does anyone doubt he would not have gotten away with this for as long he did? And not just with the local media, but also with the national media?

Of course not.

If Curlee is truly interested in doing some soul searching, he should add this to his list:
Was it because those of us in the media can never bring ourselves to cover Democrats with the same energy, skepticism, and zeal that we do Republicans?
But the number of reporters capable of facing that truth are few and far between.

Prison hunger strike - Boo-hoo. Who cares?

A Hunger Strike?  Fuck 'em
The rapists, thieves and killers are unhappy in prison.
Well Boo-Fucking-Hoo.

The People's Republic of California  -  Oh the horror!  The criminals are unhappy behind bars and are doing a hunger strike.

Fuck 'em.  I say order pizza, chicken and salad for all the prisoners who are obeying orders and have them eat it in front of the hunger strikers.

Now a California inmate has died in solitary confinement amid a system-wide hunger strike protesting "living conditions" prison, hand-wringing Leftist activists announced.

Prison officials said Saturday that they are investigating Monday's death at California State Prison, Corcoran as a possible suicide. They are awaiting the Kings County coroner's report before making a final determination on the cause of death.

The coroner didn't return a phone call seeking comment on Saturday.

Inmate supporters and prison officials disagree over whether 32-year-old Bill "Guero" Sell was participating in the strike. Prison officials said he wasn't. Activists supporting the hunger strike from outside prison say otherwise reports the Associated Press.

"It's irresponsible and inflammatory for hunger strike supporters to say this inmate, whose death is being investigated as a suicide, died as a result of the hunger strike," Deborah Hoffman, spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, said in a statement. "The inmate was not participating in the hunger strike at the time of his death."

Sell was serving a life sentence for attempted murder. He was awaiting trial for the murder of a cell mate.

The hunger strike is 20 days old. About 1,000 inmates at 11 prisons are still refusing to eat state-issued food after 30,000 inmates refused meals in the first days of the hunger strike.

Ronald Ahnen, one of seven nutcase "mediators," who is attempting to negotiate with state officials on behalf of the murders and rapists said Gov. Jerry Brown and prison administrators are refusing to engage the prisoners.

"They had a chance to negotiate, but have refused to discuss the situation at all," Ahnen said.
"Obviously, the longer the strike continues, the chances increased that something like this was going to happen."

A Quonset Hut Prison
Speaking of prison living conditions.  Instead of building insane billion dollar prisons, how about building dirt cheap fenced and cross fenced quonset hut prisons?  The huts were good enough to house American soldiers as well as German, Italian and Japanese prisoners of war in WWII.

Nothing to Steal.
Oh that's right, with dirt cheap construction there is nothing for corrupt government contractors to steal and thus no reason for them to line the pockets of politicians with campaign cash to get the contracts to build.

Good enough to house American soldiers, but somehow it not
good enough to house rapists and killers.

Good enough for law abiding civilians, but somehow it not
good enough to house rapists and killers.

GOP Farmer Wins State Senate Seat - Assembly race in a runoff

Farmer Andy Vidak takes Senate seat from the Democrats.

A Farmer Wins Election
Instead of another Bastard Lawyer

A special election for a southern San Joaquin Valley Senate seat is still too close to call. Yesterday’s special election could weaken California Democrats’ supermajority.

Republican Andy Vidak has pulled ahead of Democrat Leticia Perez by about six thousand votes in the 16th Senate District contest. With all precincts reporting, Vidak has 54 percent of the vote to Perez’s 46 percent. But there are still thousands of late vote-by-mail and provisional ballots to count in Kings, Fresno, Kern and Tulare counties.

Vidak, a 47-year old, third-generation Republican farmer from Hanford, seemed to win 51.9 percent of the vote in the special election in May over Bakersfield Democrat Leticia Perez for the Senate seat vacated by former Sen. Michael Rubio, D-Bakersfield.

Vidak needed 50 percent-plus-one votes to avoid a runoff against Perez.

Vidak had good name recognition because of his 2010 run for Congress, when he narrowly lost his challenge to incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Costa.

16th Senate District

And because Vidak ran in this most recent race as a farmer, and not as a politician, many say people in his district trust him.

“Vidak was a good candidate with good name recognition,” Harmeet Dhillon, vice chairwoman of the California Republican Party, told me in May. “And Chairman Brulte made it clear he was looking for as much support from everyone on the board, and from the counties.”

Dhillon said they couldn’t have done what they did without the help of an Independent Expenditure Committee headed by Republican Charles Munger. “The big giver to the Tulare County GOP is mega-Republican donor Charles T. Munger Jr. He’s contributed close to $270,000,” the Fresno Bee reported.

New California Republican Party Chairman Jim Brulte also authorized an Independent Expenditure Committee to be able to run television ads.

The California Republican Party has reported contributing more than $186,000 to Vidak's campaign, an amount supplemented by contributions from the Tulare County Republican Party ($21,381) and the San Luis Obispo Republican Central Committee ($40,000).

Union-backed independent expenditure committees, meanwhile, are putting their money behind Perez. Since July 1, the Democrat has benefited from nearly $200,000 spent on mailers, radio buys, Facebook ads and other activities of several IE committees, including those of SEIU Local 1000 and the California State Council of Service Employees.

Vidak reported $124,838 cash on hand as of July 6, while Perez reported $72,455, according to filings with the secretary of state through late last week.

Ontario Mayor Paul Leon
Leon re-registered in March from Republican
to no-party preference to run.

After being abandoned by the GOP, Leon registers as an Independent

On Tuesday, California held a special primary election for Assembly District 52 that could have far reaching consequences for both parties in California’s Legislature.

The 52nd Assembly District represents parts of cities in San Bernardino, Chino, and Pomona within the Inland Empire of Southern California.

AD 52 is up for grabs between candidates Paul S. Leon (No Party Preference) and Freddie Rodriguez (Democrat) after Democrat Norma Torres vacated the post in order to begin serving as State Senator from the 32nd district on March 12 of this year.

Torres leaves behind a predominately Hispanic/Latino voting district, with an estimated 68 percent of the district identifying as such reports IVN News.

Leon (NPP) entered the race with expectations that he would be one of the two candidates selected in the primary election. Currently the mayor of Ontario, Calif., Leon recently ran in the special election for Senate District 32 on March 12 earlier this year.

Unlike Leon, Rodriguez has been endorsed by the Democratic Party and is currently serving his 7th year on Pomona’s City Council. The runoff election will be the first head-to-head election of Rodriguez’s political career.

52nd Assembly District

Nine candidates were on the ballot for the special primary election, with seven Democrats, one Republican, and one candidate who declined to state a political party. Although AD 52 is a firmly Democratic district, of the three candidates who received the most votes, only one was a Democrat.

When there are seven candidates, it can be difficult for the average voter to determine which candidate ultimately is more sympathetic to their personal views. Not only this, but 9.2 percent of eligible voters participated — only 15,244 votes were cast out of a registered voting pool of 174,057.

The special primary election saw 15,244 total votes recorded, with 10,611 from San Bernardino County, and 4633 from Los Angeles County.  Leon received 3,828 district votes (25.1 percent), while Rodriguez received 3,292 votes (21.6 percent). Third place was awarded to Republican candidate Dorothy Pineda, who received 1,725 votes.

The special election proves to be an important one for California Democrats. Losing AD 52 would significantly thin out their supermajority in the Assembly. Assembly District 45 will also hold a special election later this year.

With a legislative supermajority at stake, Democratic leaders will surely be monitoring the outcome of the runoff election between Leon and Rodriguez on September 24, 2013.

Democrat Supervisor arrested in his underware outside woman's home

Democrat County Supervisor, rising Latino "rock star," caught prowling outside woman's apartment in nothing but his undies

Duuuuuuuuude! Seriously?

"looked like it had the potential to a sexual assault of some type" -- arresting officer
.
..You can't make this shit up.

Meet Efren Carrillo. He's a charismatic and very well liked second-term county supervisor in Sonoma County, California. (Yes, this is the heart of wine-sippin' Nancy Pelosi country north of SanFran.)
.

He's a community maven, with lots of interesting hobbies: Bike riding, hiking, soccer, fine dining and even a professional dance club contestant.
.Apparently, Supervisor Carrillo has other interests, as well...

From SFBay.ca, "Sonoma County supervisor arrested in socks and undies":

Sonoma County Supervisor Efren Carrillo is free on bail after being arrested Saturday near his Santa Rosa home on suspicion of burglary and prowling, police said. The arrest occurred after a female neighbor called police to report a man had tried to break in through her bedroom window.
The initial police call came in at 3:40 a.m., when the woman awoke to the sound of her blinds rustling. She then called the police again after the stranger knocked on her front door, identified himself as a neighbor and then ran away.

Continuing:

According to police, when they arrived to the home at Stony Point Road and West Third Street, they found Carrillo walking towards them carrying a cell phone — wearing nothing but socks and underwear.
Officers said Carrillo — a west Sonoma County representative for nearly five years — had been drinking alcohol...
At the woman’s home, police found a torn bedroom window screen and a partially open window. The neighbor told a detective she’s had “informal neighborhood contact” with Carrillo two or three times before; however, they did not have a physical relationship. The last time she spoke to him was more than a month ago.
Law enforcement officials went on to state, that his explanation for why he was outside the woman's apartment in his undies, just "didn't make any sense."

Not to worry. His liberal supporters posted remarks on his Facebook page to the affect, we still support you... "everyone makes mistakes."

Thanks for the heads up to The Libertarian Republican.

Liberals burn American flags and trash Oakland over Zimmerman trial

Welcome to the People's Republic of California.

Liberals march on Broadway as they stop traffic in Oakland, Calif., on Sunday, July 14, 2013.  The Leftist scum trashed Oakland, destroyed private property and burned the American flag in the name of "justice".

A Florida jury ruled Saturday that "White-Hispanic" defendant George Zimmerman has been found not guilty in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Democrat San Diego mayor accused of sexual harassment, asked to resign

Former Councilwoman Donna Frye

San Diego's first Democratic mayor in
20 years asked to resign

A prominent onetime supporter of San Diego Mayor Bob Filner urged him to resign Wednesday less than a year after taking office amid allegations that he sexually harassed women.

Radio and television station KPBS obtained a letter to Filner from former Councilwoman Donna Frye that said she recently received "credible evidence" that the mayor harassed more than one woman.

She asked that the City Council schedule a special election to replace him.

Frye, a fellow Democrat who once came within a whisker of being elected mayor in a write-in campaign, is highly regarded among Filner's liberal base and served as the mayor's director of open government for several months until resigning for a position at Californians Aware, a group that advocates for open government reports USA Today.

"Those who have spoken to me recently would not make the allegations lightly or without cause, and I believe them," Frye wrote. "I cannot in good conscience remain silent on this, even if those who have spoken to me choose to do so out of fear of retribution or the possibility of a media circus where they could be twice victimized."

Frye, who didn't immediately respond to a phone message from The Associated Press, was scheduled to appear at a news conference Thursday. Marco Gonzalez, an attorney who has worked closely with her on many issues, confirmed that she wrote the letter, which was posted on KPBS' website (KPBS Site.).

KPBS reported that Frye made clear in an interview that she was not harassed by Filner, a 70-year-old divorcee.

The mayor's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Democrat Mayor Filner
Frye's call for the mayor to resign came two days after Filner's fiance, Bronwyn Ingram, announced in an email to her team of volunteers that she was breaking the engagement.

"I am extremely disappointed and heartbroken, both for what Team First Lady could have accomplished, and for me, personally; however, this is the only action I can take given the devolvement of our personal relationship," Ingram wrote.

Gonzalez also called for Filner to resign and planned to appear with Frye at Thursday's news conference.

"At our recent meeting I was of the impression that you understood the gravity of the circumstances surrounding your treatment of staff, and in particular, the women who work for you in the Office of the Mayor," he wrote.

Frye lost a write-in campaign for mayor in 2004 only because several thousand voters who wrote her name on the ballot failed to darken the adjoining ovals. If those ballots were counted, she would have unseated Republican Dick Murphy, who later resigned amid a scandal over city finances.

Filner was elected San Diego's first Democratic mayor in 20 years in November after 10 terms in Congress.

New Los Angeles County Registration Data

Democrats have huge majority in L.A.

California’s Secretary of State only tallies the number of registered voters once in odd years. In 2013, the tally was as of February 10, and there won’t be another state tally until January 2014.

However, some California county election offices keep a running tally of the number of registered voters in each party. Los Angeles County, which holds 26% of the state population, is one of the counties that provides the data, updated daily.

As of July 7, 2013, the percentage of voters in Los Angeles County in each qualified party is:

  • Democratic 50.95%
  • Republican 21.48%
  • American Independent 2.24%
  • Peace & Freedom .59%
  • Libertarian .53%
  • Green .51%
  • Americans Elect .05%
  • Independents are at 17.84%
  • voters registered in unqualified parties are at 5.80% (this category almost certainly includes people who left this part of the form blank).

The numbers, as of July 7, are: Democratic 2,458,609; Republican 1,036,437; American Independent 108,031; Peace & Freedom 28,560; Libertarian 25,739; Green 24,521; Americans Elect 2,495; independent 860,723; miscellaneous and blank 280,092. The increase for Peace & Freedom during the last five months is probably because the party is working hard to increase its registration. In February it had 24,950 registrants in Los Angeles County.

Editor's note  -  The above data is for entertainment value only.

Keep in mind that California "elections" are as fixed as any phony election in a third world dictatorship.  The Democrats and GOP worked together to ban all small opposition parties and independents from all future general election ballots.  In virtually every contest the only choices voters are allowed to have is to vote for a Democrat or a Republican.

Jerry Brown takes a $54,400 bribe from the SEIU

"Corruptus in Extremis"
A State pay raise to union workers hits Jerry Brown's desk the
same time as a $54,400 union campaign contribution to
the Governor's campaign committee.

Corrupt Money  -  It all depends what you do with it.  If a politician hides a bribe for services rendered in his freezer he can go to jail.  But if that same politician deposits that same bribe in his campaign account then it is "legal".

Either way the taxpayers are fucked.

Temporary tax increases recently approved by voters are paying off for the People's Republic of California's largest public employees' union.

The state Senate this week, following earlier approval in the Assembly, ratified a three-year agreement that gives the 95,000 members of Service Employees International Union Local 1000 4.5 percent pay raises by July 1, 2015. The agreement was negotiated between the union and the People's Governor Jerry Brown.

Democrats used their two-thirds supermajority in the Senate on Wednesday to approve AB1377 on a 27-8 vote, sending the bill containing the agreement to the Socialist Democratic Governor for his signature. temporary tax increases recently approved by voters are paying off for California's largest public employees' union.    ..
They acted days after SEIU 1000 gave Brown's 2014 re-election campaign committee $54,400.

"We don't really have any comment on that specific contribution," union spokesman Jim Zamora said. "But it is worth noting that SEIU Local 1000 worked very hard in 2010 to elect Jerry Brown and to defeat (Republican) Meg Whitman. Nothing has changed in terms of our support for him."

A spokesman for the governor would not comment on the timing of the contribution, opting instead to address the contract itself reports the San Jose Mercury News.

Only Democrats supported the measure in the Senate, but 10 Republicans voted it for it in the Assembly, where it passed 63-9 last month. That included Assembly Minority Leader Connie Conway, R-Tulare.

Republicans in the Senate said approving the agreement based on temporary taxes is foolish and a disservice to voters. The quarter cent sales tax hike will expire in four years and the higher income taxes on the wealthy in seven.     They said voters were misled by the governor and other supporters of the initiative, Proposition 30, when they said the money would be dedicated to public schools.
.
"The governor asked Californians this past year to approve a tax increase for education, which we gave him. Today, we are about to give a $1 billion pay raise to the state employees instead," Sen. Tom Berryhill, R-Twain Harte, said during Wednesday's floor debate.
.
The $1 billion estimate assumes that other state employee unions receive similar raises patterned on the SEIU 1000 pact, Senate Minority Leader Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar, said in a statement. He criticized the state giving raises to government workers while others are struggling.
.
It is the first pay raise for the employees in seven years, said Sen. Jim Beall, D-San Jose, who carried the measure in the Senate. The SEIU contract will cost the state's general fund $130 million a year once the full increase kicks in.

California - Taxes, taxes and more taxes

California: “Highest Gas Tax in the Country”
As you are getting raped at the pump make sure to thank the Democrat Legislature
and GOP Governor Arnold Schwarzengger.

It's too bad California has only one political party:  the Republicrats.  Taxes keep going up no matter which party wins elections.  It does not help that the Dems & Repubs worked together to ban all smaller political parties from all future general election ballots.

Welcome to Socialism, the Marxist re-distribution of the wealth and fixed "elections."

A 3.5-cent per gallon increase in the gasoline excise tax went into effect this week.

The California State Board of Equalization is required to "adjust" (fuck the public) the excise tax rate by March 1 of each year to ensure revenue neutrality under laws that went into effect in 2010 that lowered the sales and use tax rate of gasoline and increased the excise tax.

Consumers pay only 2.25 percent in state sales taxes on the price of gasoline. For most other consumer goods, the sales tax rate is 7.5 percent. To make up the difference of what is not collected in gasoline sales taxes, the Board is mandated to adjust the excise tax so there is no change in the overall tax burden at the pump than under the prior tax structure.

While gasoline consumption has been reduced slightly in recent years, increases in gasoline prices in 2011 and 2012 outpaced the declines in consumption.

Gasoline sales tax revenues fund local government programs, while the state excise tax on gasoline funds highway and mass transit projects throughout California.

It’s all going to the general fund, thanks to GOP Governor Arnold Schwarzengger and a Democrat legislature.

To balance the state budget in 2010, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed, pushed for, and eventually signed a law that changed the tax structure for gas taxes with a so-called “fuel swap.”

The new tax structure eliminated the sales tax on fuel and raised the excise tax. The purpose of the change was to eliminate funds that were dedicated towards transportation from the gas tax so that the Governor could balance the state budget with fewer cuts elsewhere and no tax increases.

After years of Governors Schwarzenegger and Gray Davis “declaring a fiscal emergency” to basically rob transit operations funds that were dedicated by voters in 2002 and 2006, the State Supreme Court ruled that there had to be an actual emergency, not just a lack of political will, to declare and emergency. It was at this point, that Schwarzengger devised the “fuel swap” plan.

The program also allowed the state to raise gas taxes so that the amount collected remains static even as the amount of fuel consumed decreases. If this meant a consistent level of funding for transit and road repair projects, the program might be more popular and useful.

But it doesn’t. As George Runner, a member of the state Board of Equalization that approved today’s increase noted when he voted against it, “The goal of the fuel tax swap wasn’t good tax policy. Instead, its sole purpose was to allow the Legislature to move more than a billion dollars in gas tax revenues into the state’s general fund.”

California - Highest Gas Tax In America
Make sure to thank the tax loving GOP.
See our article:  GOP backs tax increases - Senator Bob Huff lies to Republicans

Sunrise in America
With lower gasoline taxes than California, everyday the sun somehow manages to rise in states like Texas, Ohio, Arizona and Virginia.  Children go to school, firemen put out fires, businesses run, bridges get built.
.
But in Taxifornia the liar hacks in both parties say there is never enough money.  They keep coming back and take more and more income from an apathetic Sheeple public that keeps reelecting the same bastards.
